Happy Tramp

A while back I was approached by Inbetweeners movie director Ben Palmer & Zeppotron co-founder Neil Webster who were in the process of launching Happy Tramp, a new independent production company specialising in scripted narrative comedy to design a logo which would work for print in various formats with the idea of making it move at a later stage.

Armed with only a copious amount of extra strength lager (for research purposes) I initially sketched out a few ideas... & we fairly quickly decided on the finished logo. I tried a few handwritten typefaces but we settled on trusty old Gill Sans
After the Special Brew hangover died down a few months later I took the character & directed & animated the short clip. I sent the guys an initial animatic to which they replied -

Thanks for this. We've got a lot of notes...
1. We love it.

Why aren't ALL jobs as fun  painless as this?

LOOK! NEW ANIMATION!

I have become acutely aware that to  iPads/ iPhone users the little 'Bat Van' animation on my website homepage which has served me well over the years has been unviewable due to technology issues too dull to be spoken of here. (something to do with a hissy fit between Apple & Adobe etc. etc.)

Basically, instead of a pleasing animation loop all the Apple device based punter would see was a white space...now I like minimalism as much as the next person but...

....LOOK! NEW ANIMATION!

I've just introduced these little rascals in preparation for a bit of an overhaul of the site in the next few months - do come in & have a look at http://www.stevemay.biz

Cyber Streetwise campaign

Here are a few of the posters I created for the government's Cyber Streetwise campaign.
Commissioned by the agency, M&C Saatchi, with Picasso Pictures I  created illustrations for the interactive website, print and poster Cyber Streetwise campaign &  I also designed & directed 6 short animated clips showing how people take risks with web security that they would never take in the real world. The work was written by Matt Beaumont and art directed by Phil Reedy & my producer was the brilliantly unflappable Melissa Venet at Picasso Pictures.

Cyber Street Wise posters

I was recently commissioned by M&C Saatchi to design 6 posters & direct 6 short animated spots for the government's Cyber Street Wise campaign through Picasso Pictures. The posters seem to have taken over the London Underground (& a fair bit of overground too!) Here's a few examples that have been photographed by several of my spies around London to be going on with - more soon...watch this space...

'Anger' wins AOI Images 36 Gold award!

I was at Somerset House last night to collect the Gold New Media award at The Association of Illustrators' Images 36 awards showcasing the 'Best of British Illustration 2012' for my short film Anger a short animation I designed & directed at Picasso Pictures commissioned by Reach Out, an American
charity that supports young people with challenging issues such as anger management, drugs, bullying and teenage pregnancy. You can see the whole film here

Very exciting to have won my second gold award - the previous was in Images 34 in 2010 for my film 'Rabbits'

The Images 36 exhibition runs from 3rd-28th October at Somerset House - free entrance - click here for  details

(big thanks to Picasso Pictures & producer Melissa Venet, the Association of Illustrators & my agents Arena Illustration)
