The Economist Feb 7th - An Investor Calls

I was commissioned to produce these illustrations for The Economist for an article called 'An Investor Calls' about the impact of certain hedge fund activists on businesses - you can read this far more eloquently in the original article
My idea of 'activist' was rather different to what the article was actually speaking about but once I'd been put onto the right track (no V for Vendetta masks et al!)  I had decided to make the activist female in the original roughs but was informed that all the activists the journalist had researched & spoken to were men so this was duly amended in the final illustration - here's a before / after for your edification

The Economist - 'Criminalising the American Company'

Some recent illustrations I did for The Economist magazine dated 30th August 2014 for an article about 'Criminalising the American Company' (where I somehow managed to avoid giving the cop a doughnut in the picture - great restraint May!) - you can read the article here

Economist June 2013

Illustration for The Economist international section on 'Shell companies' - untraceable companies which exist on paper only and are the vehicle of choice for money launderers, bribe givers and takers, tax evaders and financiers of terrorism.

'Mr Cameron has emphasised the importance of “breaking through the walls of corporate secrecy”.'

(& I love a bit of chiarascuro on a Friday too! : )

The Economist - Data Starvation

Recent illustration  for The Economist Technology Quarterly about the technical challenges of effective communications under the sea.
i.e. it's difficult to update your Facebook status if you don't want the enemy finding out about your sandwich of choice etc.

Economist Technology Quarterly

Had a lot of fun tackling this cover & insides for The Economist Technology Quarterly for an article called ‘Can The Scientists Keep Up’about drug testing in sport

(They also indulged my delving into the murky world of Inca coca leaf chewing, Viking psyllocybin abuse & other drug abuse in the ancient world which was alluded to in the article along with some gratuitous 'biros in lab coat' scientist clichés!)

Economical tigers

Recent commission for The Economist magazine on the subject of heat re-cycling
- you might have noticed I became slightly more excited about the prospect of drawing tigers which the nice folk at the magazine seemed happy to indulge me with, bless 'em!

Hurray for tigers!
